Proposals to amend domestic energy supply licence conditions - requiring provision of key energy data in a machine readable format

22 January 2015

Consultation response extract

This response sets out Citizens Advice's views on Department of Energy and Climate Change proposals for consumers' energy data to also be in machine readable format on bills. DECC hope that the existence of machine readable data on bills that can be scanned by smartphones and tablets will make switching easier, and that less technologically confident consumers will get help form friends or at special advice sessions.

Citizens Advice believes that there are potential privacy issues, especially where third parties are scanning consumers bills and that apps which the data links to comply with Confidence Code.
